Almost 3 Million Louisianians Registered to Vote
Description: Voter registration is over in Louisiana for people wanting to take part in the November 6 election. As of today, 2,928,365 people are qualified to vote in Louisiana.
Sandra Wilson with the Orleans Parish Registrar of Voters office says they've had 4,000 people to register to vote since the beginning of October. She says many people took advantage of the opportunity to register online and by mail. In addition, three thousand people have requested ballots by mail. The state allows people over 65 to vote by mail.
A spokesperson for the Baton Rouge Registrar of Voters office says they got the normal increase in registration in the days leading up to the deadline before a major election. More than 2,000 people registered to vote on the last day of qualifying alone, for the upcoming election. But, the spokesperson says it is not nearly as many people as were registering during the final days of eligibility of the last presidential election.
Polls will open in Louisiana at 6:00 am and close at 8:00 pm.
