Feds, Transocean Team Up in Move that Could be Determental to BP
Description: The U.S. Justice Department and Transocean today filed papers in federal court aimed at convincing District Judge Jane Triche Milazzo to accept a $400 million plea agreement in connection with the explosion aboard an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010. If Milazzo and the federal government put the final stamp on the the relatively low fine for Transocean, it could be an indication that both believe BP, not Transocean is mostly to blame for the explosion and subsequent oil spill.
The civil trial gets underway February 25 to assign blame for the disaster that killed 11 workers and injured dozens more. Almost five millions barrels of oil spilled into the Gulf before the deep water well was finally sealed more than three months after the catastrophe began.
