Texas Brine Ordered to Help Residents Monitor Homes for Methane Gas
Description: The Louisiana Commissioner of Conservation has ordered Texas Brine Company to install methane detectors in Ascension Parish homes that are in close proximity to a 4 acre sinkhole. The company has also been ordered to upgrade ventilation systems for homes and businesses that sit atop a slab foundation.
In addition, Texas Brine has been ordered to install and operate a network of vent and pressure wells. These may be the final steps necessary for residents to return to their homes. About 150 people have been out of their home since early August because of the sinkhole, and other concerns in the vicinity.State officials are apparently concern that the gas believed to be causing the gurgling and erosion in the area could end up in some homes.
